Like a lot of us, seven-year-old Storm Popham of Belle Fourche went in for his flu shot earlier this fall.

“Put him on your lap and hold him tightly,” the technician told Storm’s grandpa, Kent Popham.

“He’s fine. Just give him the shot,” Kent said.

But the technician insisted, so Kent shrugged and pulled Storm up onto his lap.

Helen Wrede: Rooted in the Hill

Helen Wrede’s Rapid City roots run deep.

The 91-year-old woman can trace them all the way back to the city’s founding. Her grandfather, John Brennan, helped found Rapid City and served as mayor until its incorporation in 1883.

But don’t expect to Helen to readily divulge such information--she’s much too modest to brag about family ties. “I wish I knew more,” she says.
